FUORIMANO - ALPEGGIO PERETA

The Apuane Alps, today known for the beauty of their marble and for the richness of their flora and fauna, in past centuries were an important agricultural and sheep farming area. Many villagers used to move to the mountain pastures (alpeggi) from spring to autumn in order to work.

The cottage is situated in Alpeggio Pereta mountain pasture, 950m above sea-level in the natural reserve of the Apuane Alps, above the villages of Pruno and Volegno, in the Stazzema district of Lucca province. Pereta is an ideal base for hiking and from here one can reach some of the most beautiful peaks of the Apuane.

The house, a typical building, has been restored by Valerio Angeli, a descendent of the family who built it in the nineteenth century. The restoration project has been financed by the Regional Government of Tuscany in year 2003. The only way to access the house is on foot, through pleasant and colourful paths of differing lengths and degrees of difficulty.
